Walnuts, honey and cheese. We’re already off to a pretty good start.

Fine Cheese Co. Walnut, Honey & Extra Virgin Olive Oil Crackers are crisp, nutty and gently sweet. You can taste the earthiness of the walnuts, there’s just enough honey to bring some sweetness, and the olive oil rounds everything out.

These aren’t crackers that disappear underneath the cheese — and nor should they. The walnut and honey become part of the pairing, which makes them particularly good with salty blues, rich creamy cheeses and anything with lovely nutty flavours of its own.

They’re also rather moreish straight from the box. Consider yourself warned.

What Cheese Goes with Walnut & Honey Crackers?

There are three combinations I’d head towards:

• Blue cheese – Probably the most obvious, and for good reason. Oxford Blue, Dolcelatte or Cashel Blue all give you that wonderful combination of salty cheese, sweet honey and earthy walnut.
• Aged hard cheese – Aged Gouda or Aged Comté PDO are brilliant. Here you’re matching nutty flavours with nutty flavours, with the honey adding just a little sweetness alongside.
• Really creamy cheese – Try Bix, Pavé d’Affinois or Délice des Crémiers. Rich, creamy cheese with walnut and honey is really rather difficult to resist.

They’re also very good with a little smoked ham or apple chutney if you want to turn your cheese and crackers into something more substantial.

Jen’s note: Give me one of these with a piece of blue cheese and I’m very happy. Walnut and honey are such natural partners for cheese that half the work has already been done for you — although a spoonful of apple chutney certainly isn’t going to hurt.
