Not every cracker needs figs, walnuts, rosemary, chilli or charcoal.

Sometimes you just want a really good, simple cracker that lets you concentrate on the cheese.

The Fine Cheese Co. Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Sea Salt Crackers are thin, crisp and gently savoury, with a little richness from the olive oil and just enough sea salt to keep things interesting.

And that’s really all they need to be.

There’s no big flavour competing with whatever you put on top, which makes these particularly useful when you’ve got several different cheeses on the board and don’t want to start matching a different cracker to every one.

What Cheese Goes with Olive Oil & Sea Salt Crackers?

The short answer is pretty much anything.

• Pecorino – Sardinian Pecorino is a natural match for olive oil and sea salt. Add a little honey if you fancy something sweet alongside.
• Alpine cheese – Comté PDO or Le Gruyère AOP both have plenty of flavour of their own, so a simple cracker underneath works beautifully.
• Mature Cheddar – Give me a piece of Montgomery’s Farmhouse Cheddar on one of these and I’m not going to complain.
• Manchego PDO – Manchego PDO with olive oil crackers and a little membrillo is a very easy combination.
• Goat’s cheese – Something creamy like Chèvre Bûche works just as well, perhaps with a drizzle of honey.

Basically, if you’re putting together a cheeseboard with lots of different styles and want one cracker to go with the lot, this is a very sensible box to open.

Jen’s note: I don’t always want the cracker to be part of the pairing. Sometimes I just want somewhere to put a decent piece of cheese. These are exactly that sort of cracker — crisp, simple and happy to let the cheese get all the attention.
