My Go-To for Cheeseboards

There are some crackers that seem to work with almost every cheese you put on them, and Peter’s Yard Original Sourdough Crackers are one of them.

Made using a sourdough starter and inspired by traditional Swedish crispbreads, they’re thin, crisp and have that lovely Peter’s Yard crunch. The sourdough brings a gentle tang, while whole wheat and rye give them a slightly nutty, earthy flavour.

There’s enough going on to make them interesting, but importantly, they still let the cheese be the important bit.

And yes, the sourdough starter needs looking after. A little like a family pet, only considerably more useful on a cheeseboard.

What Cheese Goes with Peter’s Yard Sourdough Crackers?

The easy answer is pretty much anything. That’s one of the reasons I like them.

• Soft cheese – Brie or another creamy soft cheese is lovely against that thin, crisp cracker.
• Cheddar – Try them with a mature Keen’s Cheddar. There’s enough flavour in the cracker to stand alongside a good Cheddar without getting in its way.
• Goat’s cheese – The gentle sourdough tang works particularly well with the fresh acidity of a Chèvre Bûche.
• Hard cheese – Manchego PDO or Le Gruyère AOP both work beautifully with those slightly nutty rye flavours.
• Blue cheese – Something like Colston Bassett Blue Stilton PDO has more than enough personality to cope with the sourdough.

Basically, if you’ve got a cheeseboard with several different styles on it and only want to open one box of crackers, these are a very good choice.

Jen’s note: Peter’s Yard Original Sourdough Crackers are a staple in my kitchen. I don’t particularly want to have to match a different cracker to every cheese on a cheeseboard, and with these I don’t need to. Open the box, put them next to the cheese and get on with the important business of eating it.
