Some crackers work with everything. These are a little more particular — and I think that’s a good thing.

The Fine Cheese Co. Lemon, Sea Salt & Extra Virgin Olive Oil Crackers are thin, crisp and gently savoury, with a subtle citrus freshness that makes them particularly good with lighter, creamier cheeses.

The lemon isn’t going to make you think you’re eating a lemon biscuit. It’s much more restrained than that, bringing a little freshness and acidity, while extra virgin olive oil adds richness and sea salt keeps everything firmly on the savoury side.

The result is a cracker that brings something genuinely different to the cheeseboard.

What Cheese Goes with Lemon Crackers?

For me, these are at their best with fresh, young and creamy cheeses.

• Goat’s cheese – This is probably the most obvious pairing. Try them with Cricket St Thomas Goat. The fresh acidity of the cheese and gentle citrus in the cracker work beautifully together.
• Brie – A mild, creamy Somerset Brie is lovely against the freshness of the lemon.
• Creamy soft cheese – Pavé d’Affinois works particularly well. All that rich creaminess gets a little lift from the citrus.

I probably wouldn’t reach for these first if I were eating a big mature Cheddar or a powerful blue. That’s where I’d choose a more neutral cracker and let the cheese get on with being the cheese.

Jen’s note: Not every cracker has to work with every cheese. I really like these with goat’s cheese — lemon and that lovely fresh goat’s milk acidity just make sense together. Save the Stilton for another cracker.
