Rambol Mini

Rambol mini is one of our most popular cheeses. We usually sell the St Julien version. It generally comes into us as an individually wrapped whole 125g cheese. It is a delicious combination of a creamy cheese and nuts. This soft and creamy cheese is sprinkled with finely chopped walnuts that give it a fabulously unique taste. The Rambol walnuts come from Dordogne, a region known for the quality of its nuts.

Walnut cheeses are a relatively new creation. A cheese known as Rambolitain (a savoury mixture of cheese and nuts) was invented in the 1960s in a small creamery in Rambouillet. This is a town on the outskirts of Paris within the Île-de-France area which is famous as the home of Brie de Meaux. Given its success, Rambolitain required new, larger production premises and so in 1969 the creamery transferred activity to the nearby town of Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines. This is still within Île-de-France, so the move didn’t affect the workforce at all. A few months later, a new creamery was built, and production still carries on there today. The Rambol company was incorporated in 1970. Rambol with Nuts was its first decorated cheese and it was launched commercially in the same year.

We occasionally stock a larger cutting version of Rambol. These come as a 2kg cheese and cost £40 for a whole cheese. If you would like to order either a whole, half or quarter of this cheese please give us a call.

For us Rambol is at its very best when spread over warm sourdough accompanied by a glass of Rosé.
