Peter’s Yard Pumpkin & Sunflower Seed Sourdough Crackers

If you like your crackers to bring a little something to the cheeseboard too, these are a very good place to start.

Peter’s Yard Pumpkin & Sunflower Seed Sourdough Crackers are made using slowly fermented sourdough, then packed with pumpkin, sunflower and poppy seeds before being baked until beautifully crisp.

You still get that characteristic Peter’s Yard crunch and gentle sourdough tang, but the seeds add lovely toasted, nutty flavours and make these a little more interesting than a plain cracker.

They’re definitely not a cracker that disappears completely into the background — but pair them with the right cheese and that’s precisely the point.

What Cheese Goes with Seeded Sourdough Crackers?

The toasted seeds make these particularly good with cheeses that have plenty of flavour of their own.

• Mature Cheddar – Try them with Westcombe Cheddar. The savoury, complex flavours of a good clothbound Cheddar work brilliantly with the toasted seeds and sourdough.
• Aged Gouda – Aged Gouda brings caramel and butterscotch flavours that are particularly lovely alongside all that toasted nuttiness.
• Alpine cheeses – Le Gruyère AOP or Comté PDO are natural partners, with their buttery, nutty and sometimes caramel-like flavours.
• Blue cheese – A creamy blue such as Gorgonzola or Stilton gives you a lovely contrast between rich, creamy cheese and crisp, toasted seeds.

They’re also rather good on their own, which can be slightly dangerous once you’ve opened the packet.

Jen’s note: I think there’s a place for both sorts of cracker on a cheeseboard. Sometimes I want the cracker to sit quietly underneath the cheese; other times I want it to bring something to the party too. These definitely fall into the second camp.
