Tracklements Sticky Fig Relish transforms an ordinary cheeseboard into something amazing. Its rich, mellow sweetness and subtle depth set it apart from tart pickles or punchy jams. Pair it with mild or robust cheese for an elevated experience. It looks the part, too. Deep brown with a hint of purple and visible fig pieces throughout. Its thick, spoonable texture is more like chutney than jam. It’s the kind of thing you’d expect on a well-stocked cheeseboard.

Flavour Profile

It smells instantly of honeyed fig, with warmth and a gentle tang from vinegar. There’s a hint of spice from the cinnamon, but nothing overpowering. It’s much softer and more inviting than some other pickles.

The flavour centres on deep, figgy sweetness. There’s a gentle acidity that keeps things lively, and the vinegar stays in the background. There’s also a bit of savoury and soft, spiced warmth that lingers.

For me, the texture is spot on. Tender fig pieces add chew, and tiny seeds create a gentle crunch. It’s thick enough for crackers or cheese without making a mess. It truly feels like a treat.

This relish is a perfect match for so many cheese pairings. Its mellow fruitiness pairs well with a wide range of cheeses, whether you want to match or contrast sweetness. Some of my favourites are:

1. Goat’s cheese and fig is classic. The tangy, creamy cheese cuts the relish’s sweetness, while the honeyed fig softens the goat’s goatiness! Top a cracker or toasted baguette for a fresh, moreish bite.
2. Brie or Camembert is another winner. The creamy cheese is a great base for the sweet, rich relish, and the rind suits the fig’s caramel notes. The relish adds texture, so it’s not all soft and gooey.
3. Sheep Rustler works if you prefer something firmer and nuttier. The fig relish highlights the cheese’s caramel side, and acidity prevents it from becoming too rich. The crumbly cheese and sticky relish make a strong combo, especially on a large cheeseboard.
4. If you’re feeling bold, blue cheese like Strathdon Blue is fantastic with this relish. The bold, salty cheese is moderated by the fig’s sweetness, making for a memorable bite. It’s great after dinner or as part of a festive spread.
