Tintern combines shallots, chives and onions with a mature cheddar for a superb blend of cheese and onions in a single bite.
Made by Croome Cuisine in Worcestershire, Tintern has a tangy taste with a rich onion flavour running throughout the cheese.
The cheese itself is named after the village of Tintern which sits on the River Wye in Monmouthshire. Sitting adjacent to the village is Tintern Abbey, so it is no surprise that a picture of a monk can be seen on the cheese’s label. Legend has it that the monks of the Abbey farmed shallots with the Abbey grounds.
Croome Cuisine starting making Tintern when the Abergavenny Fine Food Company decided to stop making it. They have carried on the tradition using the same recipe as the original. These cheeses are made in small batches, using locally sourced milk and the finished cheeses are then waxed by hand to create a truly artisan cheese.
We sell 2 other flavoured cheddars from Croome Cuisine, Harlech and Y-Fenni. All three are fabulously popular!
The onion tang of this cheese makes it perfect to enjoy as part of a ploughman’s lunch and if you wash it down with a fruity Merlot wine you’ll get a beautifully balanced meal.
