Gould’s Farmhouse Cheddar Cheese

We think of Gould’s Farmhouse Cheddar as our ‘house’ cheddar.  It is a creamy, cut and come again cheese which has a medium strength flavour and a fabulously pleasant tang.

This creamy Somerset cheddar cheese has been made in the village of East Pennard for over 50 years using a family recipe. We go down to the farm once a month to taste and select the cheeses that we are going to sell in the shop. This means that we can guarantee that the cheeses have the balanced taste of flavours that our customers love. We also get to chat to Jean Turner, the cheesemaker, and learn more about what makes her cheddar cheeses so special. Alongside the Gould’s Farmhouse we also have their Extra Tasty Cheddar in the counter which is a fair bit stronger than this one!

Gould’s Farmhouse cheddar has a lovely creamy flavour which it is not at all overpowering. It is aged for 9-12 months, during which time to develops a slightly nutty flavour. It has won several awards including Gold at the Global Cheese Awards in 2016.

Try pairing it with an Indian Pale ale, alongside some fresh onion and fluffy white crusty bread!
