Camembert is the cheese for connoisseurs of all things French. Unpasteurised and made using traditional methods, it has a melting soft centre with a strong flavour and delicate rind.
A superb cow’s milk Camembert cheese from Normandy. It is handmade by the Bocage family using traditional methods. They hand-pick it for it’s fabulous creamy and buttery texture that turns decadently gooey as it matures. With a classic bloomy rind, which is totally edible, this creamy French cheese has a pungent aroma and an intense flavour that finishes smoothly, with no tanginess. Just creamy and delicious, bring to room temperature before serving to fully appreciate the texture and flavour.
So, what is the difference between Camembert and Brie? Both are soft, creamy, bloomy rind French cheeses but that’s where the similarities end. Brie tends to be milder with a creamy, buttery taste. It also has a higher fat content. Camembert has a deeper, more earthy and intense flavour, it also has a stronger aroma. In our opinion both are equally delicious!
This cheese hails from Normandy but it does not meet the strict rules to allow it to be called a Camembert de Normandie PDO. This is because the wheels of cheese do not adhere to the 250g size laid down by the PDO status of the cheese. This cheese however is a fantastic example of a traditional Camembert and its flavour is second to none.
Our Camembert du Bocage comes in a 1kg wheel which we cut to down to a size of your choice. The full 1kg cheese comes in a thin box made from poplar wood. We often use a whole wheel in our cheese towers. Many people think that soft cheeses won’t work in a cheese tower but we are confident that our Camembert (and indeed our Brie) is more than capable of providing that piece of soft goodness every cheese tower needs.
This cheese pairs well with Sparkling wines. For something a bit different try it with a White Burgundy.
