Though a newer cheese, Délice des Crémiers is known as the “ice cream of cheeses” for its creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. In tastings, it’s sometimes mistaken for whipped butter or sweet cream. It’s a favourite for celebrations, showing that France continues to create new cheese classics.
Délice des Crémiers is a French triple-cream cheese that feels like a real treat. Its snowy rind and decadent interior make it almost like dessert. It’s a great example of how the French transform simple milk into something extraordinary.
It is made by the Delin Creamery in the heart of the Côte de Nuits vineyards in Burgundy, France. Delin have made cheese for years, but with this one, they wanted to celebrate Burgundy’s traditions while making something modern and luxurious.
Burgundy may be best known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, yet its dairy traditions remain central to the local spirit. Délice des Crémiers captures that generosity and indulgence.
If you’re used to Brie, Délice des Crémiers is even richer. As a triple-cream cheese, it contains extra cream and at least 75% butterfat in the dry matter. The result is incredibly smooth and decadent, almost like dessert.
Since its debut, Délice des Crémiers has appeared in cheese shops worldwide. Though newer than many French classics, it’s earned recognition among the best bloomy-rind cheeses.
The curds are gently ladled into moulds for a delicate texture, then lightly salted and dusted with Penicillium candidum, producing the white, velvety rind. As it ripens, the centre changes from firmer to creamy beneath the rind. When ripe, the cheese yields when pressed and may ooze when cut. The edible rind adds a mushroomy, earthy note to balance the cheese’s richness.
On the nose you’ll pick up fresh cream, cultured butter, and a hint of mushrooms from the rind. When young, it has a gentle tang and a crumbly middle; as it matures, the texture becomes soft, like clotted cream or whipped butter.
The flavour is all about creaminess, with sweet cream, buttery notes, and gentle tang. When at its best, you may notice hazelnut and earthiness from the rind. Though rich, it never gets overwhelming, it stays balanced and refined.
Its texture is its best feature. It melts instantly in your mouth, leaving a buttery finish. Thanks to the cream, even a small piece feels like a treat.
Jen’s note: Every bite of Délice des Crémiers is indulgence; simple ingredients turned into something special, elegant, and unmistakably French!
